| THE SINGAPORE FLYER: - Asia’s New Icon |
THE SINGAPORE FLYER: A MOVING EXPERIENCE AT EVERY TURNStanding at 165 metres, the Singapore Flyer is a new waterfront attraction that will open to the public on March 1, 2008. Unobstructed in all directions, from sunrise until sunset, the visitor can take in different perspectives of the dynamic Singapore landscape, as well as parts of Malaysia and the Indonesian isles, at every turn of the wheel. A high level of sophistication in engineering and technology was used to develop this $240-million (in Singapore dollars) giant observation wheel, poised to be Asia’s new iconic tourist draw. Every ride lasts for about 30 minutes in an air-conditioned and UV light-protected capsule, each measuring 7-metre-long by 4-metre-wide by 4-metre-high and can comfortably take up to 28 people. There are 28 such capsules that can be converted into a unique venue in the sky to host events, such as weddings, product launches and business entertaining. The Singapore Flyer will sit astride a three-storey building with an exciting array of retail, entertainment and food-and-beverage choices. A central atrium opens out to a lush tropical rainforest, with an open air theatre to host live performances. Adding to the buzz of sights and sounds will be a 210-metre-long waterfront dining promenade. Special LED lighting mounted onto the giant wheel rim will provide for a kaleidoscopic visual display at night. With numerous ramps and accessible walkways, the Singapore Flyer is disabled-friendly and provides a comfortable experience for the young and old alike. With its strategic location at the Marina Bay, the Singapore Flyer is your eye into the past, present and, particularly, the future of this ever-changing island-state. Marina Bay is a hotbed to several exciting new developments, such as the waterfront business financial centre, the Gardens by the Bay and the multi-billion-dollar Marina Bay integrated resort right across the Singapore Flyer. The Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix pit building sits next door to the Singapore Flyer, which will be part of the street circuit for the first-ever F1 night race starting 2008. Also within easy access to this giant observation wheel – be it on foot or by public transport – are hotels, shopping malls, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the Merlion Park and the Padang-City Hall historical district.
