“It Is Your 72 Hours Express Ticket To The Majestic Capital Of The Lanna Kingdom”
On 15th July 2008, hundreds of guests from the media, trade and travel industry gathered at the Orchard Hotel to witness the launch of “72 Hours Amazing Thailand Chiang Mai” Campaign. This is a joint event by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and MasterCard Worldwide.
This campaign followed last year’s introduction of the “72 Hours Amazing Thailand” which had a resounding success from short-haul visitors from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan just to name a few places. Aside from Bangkok, the campaign seeks to introduce tourists to other spectacular, charming and worth visiting destinations in Thailand. During the media briefing, by Mrs Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications of Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Mr Prakit Piriyakiet, Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region, TAT, members were told that the objective of the campaign is to attract visitors from neighbouring countries to take a 3-day, 2-night holiday break. Khun Juthaporn also reiterated that this time the campaign will showcase an 80-outlet collection of Thailand’s newest and most stylish resorts and hotels, hip-shopping destinations, luxurious pampering hideaways, chic dining outlets and can’t-be-missed activities when visiting the majestic northern province – Chiang Mai, popularly known as “The Rose of the North”, in just 3 days. ![]() Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications Located some 700km from Bangkok, Chiang Mai is the principal city of Northern Thailand. The City and its surroundings are blessed with stunning natural beauty and a unique indigenous cultural identity. Founded in 1296 by King Mengrai as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, Chiang Mai has had a long and mostly independent history, distinctive in its preservation of culture, customs and cuisine. Traditionally it is renowned as a handicraft centre, producing items in silk, silver, ceramics, wood and more. Around Chiang Mai, the neighbouring provinces of Lampang, Lamphun and Mae Hong Son hold great attraction, offering visitors opportunities to experience the North’s natural beauty and distinctive culture. The Land of Smiles beckons you. The campaign also includes a 250-Baht coloured guidebook and map in English. The “72 hours Amazing Thailand Chiang Mai Campaign” will be held from July 2008 to December 2009.
