11th Amari Watergate Hotel & BMW Thailand Charity Midnight Run 2008

The Annual Amari Watergate Hotel & BMW Thailand Charity Midnight Run, what has become an annual institution, will once again take place on city streets of Bangkok on Saturday, October 11, 2008.

It is the only race in Bangkok to be held at Midnight, and offers competitors a choice of 2 distances – 6km or 12km. The city streets are closed to traffic and protected by a police and security contingent of about 400 officers, and supported along the route by local residents and shop owners, together with the management and staff of the Amari Watergate Hotel. The atmosphere is tremendous, with over 3,000 runners, both local and foreign.

Everyone who crosses the finishing line receives a special commemorative medal. Winners in each category, including the fanciest team, receive a trophy. Amari Watergate Hotel celebrates with all participants at a cocktail party afterwards in Henry J. Bean’s Bar & Grill, also with a raffle for lots of prizes.

All proceeds from the event go to charitable causes, firstly the ‘Chalerm Prakiat HRH Princess Sirindhorn School’ which supports the education of children whose parents have very tragically passed away due to HIV infection and the second beneficiary is the ‘Baan Gerda Children's Project’, which supports HIV-infected orphans in Nongmuang, Lopburi province.

Last year event was presided by Dr. Suwit Yodmanee, Minister of Tourism and Sports, with donations totalled 3.35million Baht.

Entry forms can be obtained and tickets purchased at 300 Baht and 1,000 Baht, for which many excellent prizes can be won, such as round-trip air-tickets from various airlines, luxurious Oris watches, etc., together with a complimentary running shirt.
