ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2009 @ Hanoi Vietnam

Vietnam will organize ATF for the first time in Hanoi in 2009 aiming for a show “as big as the one in Singapore (2007) and Bangkok”. Travex will be held at National Convention Centre, the Vietnam’s largest meeting facility with an area of 64 000m² to be managed by Giang Vo Exhibition Centre.

Vietnam, a tropical country in the northern hemisphere has become an important destination of travel. It has a distinct culture, beautiful scenery and an ambitious population. The availability of all best hotels, friendly people, colourful cultural, great value for money, fabulous cuisines all contribute to what make makes Vietnam an appealing travellers’s choice of destination and resulted in estimated 4 million international arrivals.

Vietnam has attracted the attention of foreign investors every year, as a production base or an investment choice. Hence, with the surging foreign investment and strong domestic demand, Vietnam’s economic performance continues to be robust. Vietnam should gain gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 8 – 10% percent in 2008.

On the external tradefront, with Vietnam gained accession to WTO and has resulted in a vast improvement in the business environment with influx of new technology, increased productivity and the development of a more competitive economy. Additionally, it is expected to receive strong growth in return in tourism receipts, in line with the rapid expansion in international visitor arrivals.

Vietnam presently offers a strong combination of rapid growth, social stability and excellent demographic profile that is fueling consumer demand with its population approaching 85 million (2007 est). With a growing economy, the outbound market has growth in importance with most traveling to South East Asia for their weekend holidays. With more and more ease in obtaining visa to other countries, new markets for travelling includes USA, Europe and Australia.
