Singapore TV celebrity Mr. Chew Chor Meng led an expedition-of-a-lifetime to Chiang Mai from 14-24 February 2008 and raised about 500,000 Baht in cash and provisions for an orphanage at Muang District Chiang Mai Province.

The event was flagged off on Valentine’s Day at the Thai Embassy with Guest of Honour, Thai Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Mr Nopadol Gunavibool. Stopping at seven destinations across Thailand – including two one-day stopovers in Chiang Mai and Phuket, the charity drive was a golden opportunity to see Thailand in all its natural beauty.

Green Holidays Tours and Travel brought a group of 50 supporters from Singapore were warmly greeted by representatives of Tourism of Thailand Authority. Traditional dinner and cultural show were served in the garden at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel to cheer the team in Chiang Mai with more gifts and provisions to be donated to the orphanage on the next day.

All participants of the charity drive were presented with a stalk of rose and dance performance by the orphan upon arrival at the Donjun Monastery and were blessed by the Monk at the end of the event. It was a memorable sight of giving and sharing for the less fortunate.

Accompanied by a fleet of experienced safety marshalls and mechanic throughout the 5,700km journey as well as police escort throughout Thailand, the charity drive was an affordable, fulfilling and a wonderful way to kickstart 2008.
