NDP 2008 Celebrates the Singapore Spirit!

NDP @ Marina Bay continues to dazzle the nation as it celebrates the Singapore Spirit this year.

The theme for National Day Parade 2008 is Celebrating the Singapore Spirit. The Singapore Spirit has stitched our social fabric in harmony, united us in adversity and propelled us towards excellence since our independence. It is the Singapore Spirit that will continue to shape our resilience, strengthen our cohesiveness and nurture our creativity to forge ahead as One People and Nation, and continue our journey towards building a better Home for All and a Global City of Possibilities.

NDP 2008 will be held at the Marina Bay for the second year running. The scenic city landscape, multi-dimensional space, and vibrant environment will provide the creative space to deliver a visually stunning, emotionally engaging, and uniquely Singaporean experience.

NDP 2008 Logo

1-01.jpgOn our nation’s 43rd Birthday, the NDP 2008 logo captures our people’s celebration of the Singapore Spirit.

The children are reaching for the stars, striving for excellence, determined to succeed and confident of a brighter future ahead. They are dancing in step with on another as a show of unity and graciousness.

The logo radiates vibrancy and dynamism; inspiring all Singaporeans to shine for Singapore!

Some of the key highlights for NDP 2008 are as follows:

Exciting Aerial Display.

In addition to the traditional National Flag Fly-Past and Salute to the Nation by the Chinook helicopters and F-16 fighter jets, this year's Parade & Ceremony segment will conclude with a dazzling 8-minute Aerial Display by the RSAF Black Knights, commemorating RSAF's 40th anniversary.

Innovative Three-Tiered Stage Design.

A three-tiered stage will be constructed. This brings the show 'closer' to the spectators at the Seating Gallery, and also offers more creative space to enhance the parade and show performance.

Unique Three-Dimensional Parade Layout.

The traditional parade layout will be given a fresh three-dimensional layout with an appropriate dress mix and colour differentiation. The Guard of Honour (GOH) contingents will be brought closer to the spectators and be paraded on the promenade, while the supporting contingents will be arrayed on the stage set on the Floating Platform on separate tiers to achieve a fresh perspective to the audience.

Integrated Show Concept.

An integrated approach in the choreography of the Show segment will be adopted. Each of the three Acts will be performed by two or more organisations. In addition, the creative use of music, colourful costumes, larger props, and special water effects to string the Acts seamlessly, will better engage the audience to achieve dynamism and vitality in the performances.

Engaging Pre-Parade Show.

Exciting acts will be performed on both the floating platform as well as on the waters of the Bay to create a festive atmosphere and get the participants into a celebratory mood. Some features include: percussion fireworks symphony, mass cheerleading, line dancing, combined school choir performances, military precision drills and band display. The Pre-Parade segment will also involve spectators’ participation through the use of fun pack items, rendition of a Singapore Cheer and mass games.
