Come Celebrate Our National Day!
The National Day Parade 2008 Executive Committee presents a 7-week long calendar of events to celebrate National Day 2008. Events ranging from the Singapore Garden Festival, Circus Street Performers, Flag@Padang, Singapore Fireworks Celebrations and concerts will provide an exciting and entertaining range of activities for everyone to share in the celebratory spirit of NDP 2008. These events will take place in various locations in the vicinity of Marina Bay Floating Platform, such as Marina Square, Padang and the Merlion Park.
Singapore Fireworks Celebrations The Fireworks display is always a perennial public and photographers' favourite event. The 2008 Singapore Fireworks Celebrations promises to excite spectators with spectacular visuals on 22 and 23 Aug 08 at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. National Heritage Board – Celebrating Our Heroes The National Heritage Board will hold its annual Heritage Festival. The highlight of the Heritage Festival is the anchor exhibition “Celebrating Our Heroes” which would be held at the SUNTEC City's Tropics Atrium and Galleria Foyer from 16-27 Jul 08. This festival will also comprise outreach events such as “Fun on Foot – The Heritage Marathon”, “Expedition-H”, “Culture-101”, Vintage Car Rally and storytelling sessions.
Varieté! Street Theatre
CircusOutreach will be organizing the Varieté! Street Theatre from 25 Jul to 10 Aug 08. Featuring 10 acts from Japan's prestigious Street Performers Program, “Heaven Artists”, a total of 54 shows will be staged at various locations including Marina Bay and the Singapore Zoo. Varieté! Street Theatre is the first and only All-Japanese street performer festival outside of Japan, augmenting them will be local performers.
K1 Race and Carnival The K1 Go-Kart Race Finals and Carnival will be held on 26-27 Jul 08 at the F1 Paddock and organized by CS Racing and Singapore Motorsport Association. In the Motorsports arena, spectators can expect drifting performances as well as Auto GymKhana and demonstrations. At the Race Track, Sprint races will provide spectators and visitors nonstop, fast paced racing action. The Go-Kart circuit will present the Go-Kart races, demonstrations as well as Inter-school and Corporate Competitions. A Carnival has also been planned to provide non-stop entertainment for the spectators. Events including a Bazaar, Online Gaming and Stilt walkers have been planned.
National Parks Board – Singapore Garden Festival The Singapore Garden Festival will be held again in the tropics, bringing together the world's top award-winning garden and floral designers together at SUNTEC Convention Center from 25 Jul 08 to 1 Aug 08. Singapore Connect – Heartware Network Heartware Network will be organizing the first “Connect Singapore” event, the LARGEST citizenship event connecting Singaporeans in our History. The aim is to unify 43,000 youths to come together, hold hands forming the 'heart' of Singapore on 08 August 2008.
Celebrate National Day at Esplanade Come celebrate National Day at the Esplanade where various events and activities including Local Music Group performances as well as the NDP 08 Countdown Party will be held in conjunction with NDP 2008 from 8 to 10 Aug 08. These events will also signify the official opening of the Esplanade's new Outdoor Theatre.
Young NTUC Presents Flag @ Padang Young NTUC will be organizing the largest Day and Night Human Singapore Flag on 9 Aug 08 at the Padang to celebrate the Nation's 43rd Birthday. There will also be a post NDP 08 party held at the Padang.
Singapore Bay Run / Army Half Marathon (SBR / AHM) The Singapore Bay Run will be held on Sunday, 24 Aug 08. This year's SBR promises participants an awe-inspiring scenic route as they speed through Benjamin Shears Bridge, East Coast Park, Marina Barrage, Marina Bay Floating Platform and ending at the Padang.
NCSS Carnival / Heartstrings Walk The carnival, to be held at the Esplanade Park from 23 and 24 Aug 08, will showcase the evolution of social services, work, achievements and services provided by the NCSS Voluntary Welfare Organizations. The event promises to be a day of learning, fun and games for everyone. The Heartstrings Walk will allow Singaporeans to discover Marina Bay on foot. 12,000 participants are expected to join in a brisk walk or a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Singapore River Trail.
NAC – EXXONMOBIL Concert in the Park – World Of Voices The Concert in the Park – World Of Voices is back and will be held at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 24 Aug 08 from 4pm to 6pm in conjunction with NDP 08 Celebrations. The event will present an exciting array of performances amidst the lush greenery and natural ambience of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, featuring voices in perfect harmony and showcasing award winning choir groups, a cappella groups and B-box performers. Bornfire Experience one of the largest Fire Festival this NDP 08 as performers both local and foreign come together and wow the public with their exciting and eye-catching fire performances and a series of engaging workshops as part of the BornFire 2008. 'Singapore My Home' Photo Contest Photovivo.com will organize “Singapore My Home”, a nationwide photography competition held in conjunction with NDP 2008. This event allows participants to capture images in accordance to the theme “Celebrating the Singapore Spirit”. The best photographs will be exhibited at various locations between July and August 2008 and will be featured as part of NDP 2008 show-multimedia segments. Text Edited by Eugene Tang.
