Apache attack helicopter to make debut appearance at NDP aerial display
- The Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) AH-64D Apache attack helicopter will feature for the first time in the aerial display at this year's National Day Parade (NDP). They will be among a total of twelve RSAF aircraft that will thunder through the skies above the National Stadium to celebrate Singapore's 41st birthday.
- Chairman of NDP 2006 Air Participation Committee, Colonel (COL) David Wong, said: "The aerial display has always been a popular feature that thrills the spectators. This year's display will feature the RSAF F-16 fighter jets, the Chinook, and for the first time, the Apache attack helicopters."
- "The aerial display also showcases the precision, strong discipline and professionalism of our people in the Air Force," he added.
Highlights of the RSAF Aerial Display
- Taking place during the Parade and Ceremony (P&C) segment, the aerial display will consist of three segments – the State Flag Flypast, the Presidential Salute and the RSAF Aerial Display.
State Flag Flypast and Presidential Salute
- The State Flag Flypast, a traditional highlight, will feature a Chinook helicopter carrying the 60 by 90 ft State Flag, escorted by two Apache helicopters. The flypast will be synchronised with the singing of the National Anthem.
Presidential Salute
- Following the singing of the National Anthem, three F-16C/D will perform split-second precision and synchronised afterburner flypast above the crowd, followed closely by five F-16D Block 52+ fighter jets executing a visually spectacular bomb-burst as a salute to the President. To add colour to the aerial salute, the five F-16s, flying at a height of just 500 metres, will trail off with white smoke from the smoke pod that is specially designed in-house.
RSAF Aerial Display
- After the Presidential drive-past on the parade ground, the RSAF will perform their finale aerial display item. Three F-16D Block 52+ fighter jets will roar over the skies above the National Stadium followed by three Apache helicopters flying in an arrow formation.
- A total of 24 air crew will be involved in the aerial display.
