A Spectacular Show for the Senses

- Come dressed in red on 9 Aug and be part of a spectacular show brought to life by over 3000 participants through the use of multimedia, special visual and audio effects, and for the first time ever, 50 seconds of artistically choreographed fireworks display during the Show segment.
- Anchored by the People's Association, Singapore Soka Association and Ministry of Education, a seamless performance depicting the NDP 2006 theme "Our Global City, Our Home" and the 3 sub-segments "Our City of Colours", "Our Island of Opportunities" and "Our Nation of Hopes and Dreams" promises a meaningful and emotive experience for spectators at the Stadium, on the live webcast and the television audience at home.
- "The Show will rally all Singaporeans, the old and young, from all walks of life to feel proud to be Singaporeans", said Chairman Show, Lieutenant-Colonel Nelson Yau.
- Audience interaction will be incorporated into the performances through the use of props found in the fun pack and the passing of the giant Singapore flag in the finale.
- Spectators will witness for the last time, the igniting of the giant cauldron which will transform the National Stadium into a giant birthday cake. This follows a short video montage showcasing our nation's journey to Singapore Today through momentous events at the stadium, a fitting tribute to this national icon.
"Our City of Colours"
- The NDP 2006 Show segment kicks off with an energetic performance by local singer Gani Karim and Strikeforce drummers. Dancers from People's Association dressed in contemporary ethnic costumes, together with Tanglin Secondary School and Singapore Soka Association participants will perform an integrated cultural dance, representing harmony in rhythm.
- This opening display celebrates our unity in diversity, a multi-racial, cultural and religious society living harmoniously in "Our City of Colours", a vibrant cosmopolitan city where we share common aspirations to forge a better life for all.
"Our Island of Opportunities"
- Features an impressive display of precision by the Singapore Armed Forces Provost Unit and Home Team, including a high-tech light show by Singapore Soka Association portraying the success of Singapore today as a progressive and safe city.
- We have advanced and prospered as a nation even as we work closely with our regional, global and multi-national partners. Together, we have created an island of opportunities where we enjoy different paths to success.
- Aerial performers from The Dream Engine and actor Vincent Ng will be suspended from heliospheres (giant balloons) floating into the stadium to symbolise the new opportunities that we can look forward to.
"Our Nation of Hopes and Dreams"
- Centred on the notion of remaking Singapore, this third segment focuses on the hopes and dreams that all Singaporeans share. Richard Chia and his team of tapdancers together with the Nan Hua High School students will showcase a vibrant mass display, reflecting the energy and optimism of our people as we look forward to a promising and sustainable future.
- Performers will form the NDP 2006 logo using flashcards to demonstrate their creativity and spontaneity, concluding with the formation of the compass star-shaped centre stage, representing our direction towards building a better future.
"Our Global City, Our Home"
- The Grand Finale reaches out to the hearts and minds of our people through a shared vision to remake our nation into a vibrant global city. This segment seeks to awaken the latent patriotism in all of us, imbuing us with a sense of belonging that culminates in knowing that Singapore will always be our home.
- The finale will feature a combined mass display involving all participants in a "Sing Singapore" medley and a spectacular fireworks display with the giant Singapore flag flowing down from the spectator stands.
- This year's NDP 2006 Theme Song "My Island Home" will be sung by home-grown talent Kaira Gong.
- The Show segment was conceptualised by the NDP 2006 Creative Team, comprising members from all participating organisations.
