Christie's Hong Kong, Asia's premier auctioneer, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2006. Leading the Asian auction market, it has achieved extraordinary results over the past two decades.

In conjunction with the 20th anniversary, Christie's Hong Kong will stage its Spring Auctions (28 May – 1 June) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This season's sales will be the largest auction series ever to be staged in Asia. Highlights from the Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art, 20th Century Chinese Art, Asian Contemporary Art, Magnificent Jewellery & Jadeite Jewellery and Important Watches auctions will be showcased in Singapore.

Of particular note is Terrace affording a view of the sea with Pollok under an umbrella and several figures by Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merprès to be offered in the Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art sale, estimated at HK$8,000,000-10,000,000 (US$1,025,600-1,282,000). It is a classic representation of the artist's style, of his inspiration and certainly of his muse, Pollok.

The Magnificent Jewellery and Jadeite Jewellery sale will feature an exquisite selection of precious gemstones, flawless diamonds and jadeite pieces. One of the highlights is a 31.97-carat square-cut Burmese sapphire and diamond ring, estimated at HK$800,000-1,200,000 (US$100,000-150,000). The piece displays a royal blue of great depth is a perfect specimen of the finest sapphires from Burma.

The Important Watches sale will offer a range of fine and rare timepieces. Among the highlights is a Richard Mille titanium tourbillon wristwatch with power reserve and torque indication, Ref. RM002, estimated at HK$720,000-1,000,000 (US$90,000-130,000). Due to complexity of the unusual movement, production of this model is limited to a very small quantity per year. It is one of the most coveted timepieces in today's market.

The top lot of the 20th Century Chinese Art sale is Garden by Liao Jichun, estimated at HK$6,000,000-10,000,000 (US$769,230-1,282,000). Upon his return to Taiwan from abroad in 1962, Liao's works began to show marked stylistic changes. The fruits of this important period of transition to his mature style can be seen in this painting, unusual not only for its large size but also as one of his most remarkable and accomplished creations from this period.

The Asian Contemporary Art sale will offer an array of exceptional contemporary Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Indian art. Of particular note is Enchanting Spring by Yue Min Jun, estimated at HK$600,000-800,000 (US$76,900-102,600). Yue's work startles by borrowing elements of classical aesthetic, suggesting beauty, nobility, and poetic sentiments for use in a critique of modern society.

An exceptional selection of Asian art, watches, jewellery and jadeite to be offered at Christie's Hong Kong Spring auction will be exhibited.
