Wonderland @ Chingay Parade Singapore 2009
This year’s Chingay Opening items promises to break the number record in Chingay history as it presents the biggest scale Chingay Opening with an impressive entourage of 750 performers from nine organizations which will showcase the best of DRAGONS FROM CHINA AND SINGAPORE, PHOENIXES, GOLDEN OX GENERAL AND FLAGS DISPLAY. A UNIQUELY CROUCHING LION FLOAT USHERING IN THE PRESIDENT AND AN 8-METRE TALL FLOAT “THE TRIO OF DRAGON FLOAT” designed by a team of six NTU professors.
Started in 1973, this national festival of Singapore began as a neigbourhood parade and was totally Chinese event then. Today, the parade has evolved to be the grandest street and floats parade in Asia, showcasing the rich, vibrant multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan cultures of Singapore and exotic cultures from countries around the world.
This year, Chingay presents 6 international groups from China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, India and Indonesia, with groups that have never appeared in Chingay before. Catch a glimpse of Miss Thailand 2009 in the Amazing Thailand segment. Adding to the auspicious greetings is the giant GOLDEN OX GENERAL and 8 acrobat warrior oxen from Taiwan and more.
The grand finale entitled: “Banquet” will be the biggest parade show in the entire Chingay‘s history. A combination of glittering floats, world class magic illusion show, singing by theatre stars, acrobatic acts and fireworks.
Join in the Chingay After-Parade Party on Sat, 31 January 2009 at City Hall! There will be two after parade parties – street dance at City Hall and line/folk dance along Connaught Drive and Chingay ticket holders (31 Jan 2009) are entitled to join the party for free. Featuring renowned gregarious DJs, naming DJ Sassy Pandez (UK), Yiu & Bo (HK), DJ Sarasa a.k.a SILVERBOOMBOX (Japan) and DJ Koflow (Singapore).
Chingay is an excellent event to bring people of different races and social backgrounds together to interact and form friendships. Organised by PA, it is one of the biggest national joyous events in Singapore involving a wide range of organizations, local international communities, foreign troupes and many volunteers.
