The school has always been trying to raise the environment consciousness amongst the staff and students. This year, as part of Total Defence, the school teachers have decided to take a step and pledge on www.iwill.sg to bring lunchboxes to school. This pledge was brought to IKEA’s attention and the company is really encouraged by the school teachers’ “I Will” pledge to be environmental conscious with their lunch box initiative. IKEA recognises that the teachers are setting a great example for the students as seeding the green awareness should be done as young as possible also. Hence they decided to take this a step further to support the green and sustainability initiative in Tampines North Primary with the provision of food storage boxes to Primary One students.

Besides it being a great "welcome-to-school" orientation gift from IKEA for the primary one kids, the lunchbox is really useful. Parents tend to be most protective about this group of children as they are young and new to school. They tend to be the group that would have home-prepped food as the parents are really concerned with what their children would eat, and hence often have kids bring their own snacks from home. Here is where the lunch boxes will be most effective. With the lunchboxes, students need not wrapped their snacks in 'un-green' cling wrap or aluminium foil or ziplock bags whenever they bring snacks from home. Reusable lunch boxes can be aptly used now. They can even use the boxes to contain the food they buy from the canteen vendors!
