Harmony Tour 2009/2010
For one night only, the accomplished Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (TMSO) will deliver a concert of popular works under the baton of the distinguished and illustrious Kazuhiro Koizumi.
The orchestra is on tour to promote closer ties and cultural exchange between Tokyo and various cities around the world. Dubbed the Harmony Tour 2009/2010, TMSO will perform a dramatic piece from the famous opera Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor featuring soloist and award-winning local pianist Lim Yan.
TMSO was set up to mark the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1965 and has since grown to become one of Japan's foremost professional orchestras. It has won the Kyoto Music Award and received much international acclaim by performing in many countries including the former Soviet Union, Seoul, London, Berlin, Paris, China, Finland, USA and Beijing.
In 2008, Kazuhiro Koizumi was appointed TMSO’s resident conductor. The multiple-award-winning maestro has also conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
