Serenity in Stone: The Qingzhou Discovery

In 1996, a large cache of 400 Buddhist sculptures was uncovered in a pit on the site of the longdestroyed Longxing (Dragon Rise) Temple in Qingzhou, Shandong province, eastern China.Recognised as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in China, most of these stone sculptures date back to the 6th-9th centuries - when Buddhist art in China was at its peak.
 
This exhibition will feature 35 of the best preserved and most exquisite sculptures from the Qingzhou finds. Organised in collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales and with the support of VisAsia, this will be the first time these amazing sculptures are exhibited in
Southeast Asia.
