National Geographic Opens the First Asian Retail Store At VIVO City, Singapore

Inspired by National Geographic photography? Located at Vivocity, Singapore’s largest shopping mall, National Geographic opens the first Asian retail store in Singapore. This is National Geographic’s second global store, following the London store launched on Regent Street last month. The store opening builds on the success of National Geographic’s strong customer base for its media products, with National Geographic Channel available in over 56 million homes in Asia Pacific and over 100,000 readers for its magazines in Singapore.

Drawing on National Geographic’s 120-year heritage of inspiring people to care about the people and the world, this flagship store will bring together the Society’s exclusive products and services in a constantly evolving, highly experiential and culturally inspired setting. More than a traditional retail environment, the National Geographic store boasts compelling multisensory elements, interactive visual displays and state-of-the-art design dedicated to stimulating, educating and inspiring visitors to celebrate global cultures and natural environments.

Occupying 1,500 square metres (16,146 square feet), the store will feature a retail marketplace along with an exhibition area and unique “experience zones,” including a climate control chamber to try out explorer gear and accessories under simulated outdoor conditions for their upcoming adventures.

The marketplace will feature a wide selection of National Geographic products, including its award-winning magazines, books and DVDs, as well as newly created products and unique items, sourced from global artisans includes original artefacts and tools found in indigenous tribes in Africa, custom jewellery, and hand-stitched cultivated camel hide bags from Kenya.

Other key product lines include National Geographic’s Rugged Basic, International Traveler and Explorer Gear clothing lines and accessories; casual and expedition-style footwear; a full range of optics, from eyewear and binoculars to telescopes and cameras; journals, calendars and other stationery products; maps, atlases and guidebooks; watches; and a wide selection of children’s products. Also on offer will be items designed for the rigors of adventures and exploration, including hi-tech waterproof bags and innovative, multi-layered clothing suitable for diverse climates and activities.

All furniture and home décor items featured in displays are available for sale. They include furniture pieces constructed of wood reclaimed from old furniture, buildings, bridges and railways. Items include armchairs, tables, lamps and glassware available in a variety of colours, textures and finishes.

National Geographic also will regularly organise public lectures by some of its most renowned explorers, authors and photographers and will host free film screenings at Vivo City’s outdoor amphitheatre.
