Beerfest Asia 2009
The inaugural Beerfest Asia 2009 features exotic and unusual brews from all over the world – over 100 kinds of beers from as low as $3 under one roof at the main festival marquee located on the F1 tracks (facing Marina Barrage) behind the Singapore Flyer from 29 April to 3 May 2009.
With beers coming from far-flung Chile, Mexico and Switzerland to traditional beer powerhouse-countries such as Belgium, the USA and Germany, beer culture is embraced under the 2,100sqm marquee that also sits 1,500 people, German beer cellar style. Over 25 breweries and beer distributors are participating in this exhibition including Singapore’s very own Archipelago Brewery.
Highlights of Beerfest Asia 2009 include the USA craft beer stand featuring over 40 types of American beers from independent breweries found from east coast to west. Premium beer, DeuS (Brut des Flandres), the most expensive beer in the world, is available at a special promotional price only at the festival. Fermented in Belgium and transformed into a sparkling divine drink in France by the Dom Perignon champagne method, it is one of the world’s most exquisite beers. Another first at Beerfest is the launch of Oakleaf Bitter in Singapore. A classic English beer drunk by royalty in the UK for the past 200 years, it has a distinctive flavour and pleasant aftertaste to suit the taste buds of many. All these and more to be unveiled at the world of Beerfest Asia 2009.
Beers aside, on hand to provide entertainment throughout the five days of festivities are Singaporean and international artists invited to play up a storm on the main stage. Hell’s Belles, the premier all-ladies AC/DC tribute act from USA endorsed by Angus Young himself (Blender Magazine, 2003) rocks out on 29 April and 1 May 2009. Playing all AC/DC and spanning pure rock brilliance of the Australian legendary band, the raw power and the undeniable appeal of the band represents a whole new generation of women that will not be intimidated.
Headlining act Vertical Horizon makes their only stop in Asia here at Beerfest on 2 May 2009. Singapore is one of the first stops on the tour in support of their forthcoming new album “Burning the Days”. Vertical Horizon’s debut album under major label RCA was certified double platinum with singles "Everything You Want", "You're a God" and “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)" skyrocketing to the top of the charts. 2009 marks a new beginning with fresh offerings under a change of management and renewed commitment to fans old and new alike.
Other Singaporean artists groups line up includes Beerfest All-Stars Blues Band(featuring Ublues and Rai), Goodfellas, Heritage and Reverie & Rene, 53A and Jack & Rai (featuring EIC). B-Yond’s series of extraordinary theme club nights come to Beerfest Asia with mega VIP Club Night Mayfair. DJ Dan Paris and Esa from the United Kingdom will be playing soulful and funky Balearic house accompanied by Budi (Wicked Aura) on percussions on 30 April 2009. Generally a disappointment,
Generally a disappointment, especially for VIP members who had their VIP status revoked when the organizers allowed just about everyone into the VIP zone early in the night. VIP members were also promised 'waiting services' but apparently only the girls from Singa were visiting us frequently. No good.
