This year marks the 150th Anniversary of Bhai Maharaj Singh Ji who departed from this world to be one with God in 1856 in Outram prison in Singapore. The Central Skih Gurdwara has lined up serveral programmes over the next two months to celebrate the life of this great saint- soldier and the lessons we can learn from his life to fulfill the objectives of our life.

Bhai Ji immersed his eariler life totally in Nam Simran (medication) and Sewa (service to community). In line with these two pillars of Sikhism the Board will be having 3 Akhand Paths at Bhai Ji's memorial Gurdwara starting on 19 June and ending on 25 June 2006. Each evening resident Kirtani Jathas and Bhai Chamanjit Singh Lall will perform kirtan/Katha in the main Darbar Sahib, Gurdwara Sahib Silat Road. In addition the Board will release a set of two audio CD tapes depicting life of Bhai Ji, Kirtan/Katha and Nam Simran. The collection of dry ration for Homes and a visit to a home are planned. The Board invites Sangat to partake daily in Kirtan/Katha and Sewa programmes to reflect on the life of Bhai Ji.

To build stronger bonds among Sikhs and Sikh Instituations, Inter-Gurdwara sporting activities are planned. Inter-Gurdwara golf tournament would be followed by Inter-Gurdwara soccer challenge. A car rally(2/7/06) for participants to learn Singapore Sikh history and heritage will conclude the sporting programme.
