This is a very well-known and beautiful tomb in Singapore, situated at the end of Palmer Road behind former Y.M.C.A. It is said that Habib Nor Bin Mohammed Al-Habshi was born in Penang and came to Singapore soon after it was founded. In July, 1866, he died at a very old age in the house of a relative of Temenggong Abu-Baker, the grandfather of the present Sultan Ismail of Johore. Habib was regarded as a man with great faith and endowed with super-natural power which enables him to go anywhere at will and to Mecca every Friday. The surrounding structures were built by Syed Mohammed Bin Ahmad Al-sagoff in 1890 and the site is still the possession of the Al-sagoff household. |
