Yoga by the Water @ World Water Day 2008PUB, the national water agency, in conjunction with World Water Day 2008, goes “Active, Beautiful, Clean” with the public – promoting water and its culture in Singapore! Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources was at Upper Peirce Reservoir (贝雅士上段蓄水池) to join more than 250 yoga lovers for a workout by the calm and scenic waters. “Yoga by the Water shows us the wonderful possibilities that could happen at our reservoirs. Reservoirs are no longer just places for water storage. Singaporeans can enjoy these blue assets by having a variety of fun and healthy activities at reservoirs,” said Dr. Khor. Agreeing with Dr. Khor, yoga instructor Michelle Wee, said: “Leading a yoga workout here in the open is so refreshing. The air at the reservoir is very clean and fresh. You hear real birds chirping, you see the sunlight reflecting on the water, you instantly feel a sense of serenity and happiness.” In line with its approach of reaching out to the young, PUB worked with 20 undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information to organise Yoga by the Water. The students were involved in running the entire event, including managing the programme, logistics, sponsorship, media relations and event evaluation. This is part of a class project for a course on events management they are taking. “The benefits we’ve received from taking part in this event are two-fold and invaluable,” said 22-year-old Destiny Ong, a final-year student. “Instead of just reading about event management from textbooks, we got to put into practice what we have learnt. In the process of planning this event, we also got to know more about water, something which we have often taken for granted in the past,” she added. About PUB’s tagline: Water for All: Conserve, Value, EnjoyPUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for Singapore with the Four National Taps (local catchment water, imported water, NEWater , desalinated water). To provide water for all, PUB calls on all Singaporeans to play their part to conserve water, keep the water catchments and waterways clean and build a cultural relationship with water. Singapore can then have enough water for all uses – for industry, for living, for life.
