Singapore River Hongbao 2007

Singapore River Hongbao (SRHB) 07 will usher in the Year of the Pig with "Bountiful Abundance" as its main theme. This also reflects Singapore's strong economic growth in 2006 and carries the wish for a better harvest in 2007.

The 21st Singapore River Hongbao event will, once again, be held at the Esplanade Park along Connaught Drave. The Light-Up ceremony and Gala show was officiated by Mr Wong Kan Seng (黄根成), Minister for Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore on February 16 (Friday) and the event will extend to Yuan Xiao Jie (the 15th day of the Chinese New Year) on March 4 (Sunday).

In line with the event's basic objectives of promoting family harmony and Chinese culture, SRHB 07 will comprise a wide range of activities to cater to different age groups of the family unit. Highlights of this major celebration of the Chinese New Year include:

  • Transformation of Esplanage Park into a fairyland of lights and colours to celebrate the Spring Festival. Besides the regular God of Fortune, there will be a replica of the Imperial Palace of Shenyang and drum set made up of drums of all sizes to add to the festive cheer. There will be a drummers' performances to further enhance the New Year spirit.
  • A Main Stage which will feature the world renowned acrobats of Shenyang in Liaoning Province. Together there is also a widely acclaimed song and dance troupe from Taipei Physical Education College, as well as artistes from Malaysia and Singapore.
