Since its inception 17 years ago, the Asian Young Fashion Designers Contest (AYFDDC) is still the only regional talent search that has paved the way for many young fashion designers to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Previous and current contestants come mainly from regional countries like Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Eight contestants from six countries were short-listed for the finals this year, along with the winner and first runner-up from the Singapore Fashion Designers Contest (SFDC) both representing Singapore. All ten would vie for the top prize at AYFDC. Adjudicated by a panel of local and international fashion industry experts, each finalist would showcase twelve outfits each based on the Changing Patterns concept. The top three winners received cash prizes of S$8,000, S$4,000 and S$2,000 respectively, sponsored by Raffles City (Pte) Ltd. Aside from the cash award; the First Prize Winner for AYFDC would also receive a BA-Honours Degree in Fashion Design Scholarship Programme at the Raffles Design Institute, sponsored by Raffles Design Institute. The ten finalists of the AYFDC were:
