The Mount Fuji Festival provides the backdrop to the central characters of Topman Design's Spring/Summer show. Inspired by festivalgoers, band members and DJ's the collection covers three trend areas, which worked together make up the eclectic look of Japanese festival folk.

'Indigo Batik', is the first trend and the base colour to the repeat patterned fabric which lends itself to the collection's vintage inspired sportswear, such as blouson jackets and tennis shorts. Fabric laminated gym bags and printed webbing belts are adapted to feature these prints. Un-pressed cotton gingham and fine lined suits are loose and unstructured; shirt collars are soft and pyjama like. Vests are heavily jaquarded with red geometric graphics, and fine gauge knits replicate patterns through texture.

The second look is termed 'Organic Japanese' a trend which focuses on the fresh blossomy colours and the hand crafted intricacies of traditional Japanese fabrics and techniques. Leather jackets are delicately hand painted, track tops are printed then cut away and vintage kimono silks are used as fronting to jackets and vests. Through this trend comes a new take on military, which sees shorter boxy styles in Spring colours such as dusky pinks and white.

The final trend features a mix of kitsch 80's sportswear and an update on the rock and roll skinny silhouette from recent seasons. An important piece here is the Tyvek jacket, offset with colour prints from Japanese roadie graphics to Miami palm trees. Although palettes are based on monotone, pieces are over printed in pastels and accessories used, such as vibrant snake belts, adding a stab of colour.
