Matthew Williamson Company was founded in February 1997 by designer, Matthew Williamson and CEO, Joseph Velosa.

In September 1997 Matthew Williamson showed his infamous debut collection, ‘Electric Angels’, during London Fashion Week. Bias cut dresses and separates in exotic shades of tangerine, fuchsia and magenta were worn by models Kate Moss, Helena Christensen and Jade Jagger. This unique collection of bright, intricately detailed pieces defined and set the pace for the highly recognisable Matthew Williamson signature aesthetic. Press coverage followed on the front pages of the British national press, and international publications including UK, French, Italian and American Vogue.

Following his first show, Matthew Williamson’s collections have continued to grow and gather momentum, cementing his reputation as one of the UK’s leading designer talents. In February 2002, Matthew showed his first collection during New York Fashion Week. This transition expanded opportunities within the press and attracted a wider audience commercially. The company now produces 4 women’s wear collections annually. Matthew Williamson is sold in approximately 150 stores worldwide and also has an award-winning flagship store on Bruton Street, London.

Matthew Williamson’s status has led to a careful selection of collaborations with established brands.Projects have included a limited edition bottle design for Coca Cola, a limited range of stationary with Smythson and a wallpaper design for Habitat’s VIP range in 2006 with a new range of wallpapers slated to launch from September 2007. In April 2005 Matthew Williamson unveiled his first fragrance with great success. This has been followed by 4 individual fragrances based on the most memorable notes of the signature fragrance; Lotus, Incense, Jasmine Sambac, Warm Sands. Collectively labelled as “The Collection”, these individual fragrances launched in February 2007.

His achievements in the fashion industry have been consistently recognized: Matthew Williamson won Elle designer of the year 2004, was awarded the 2005 Moet & Chandon fashion tribute and has been nominated 3 times for Designer of the year at the British fashion awards. In 2005, in recognition of his talent with colour and print, Matthew Williamson was appointed Creative director of Emilio Pucci, the luxury Italian fashion house, now owned by LVMH.

Matthew Williamson is regularly worn by a variety of internationally recognised clients including; Madonna, Kiera Knightley, Kate Hudson, Mischa Barton, Sienna Miller, Helena Christensen and Demi Moore.

2007 marks the 10 year anniversary for Matthew Williamson. To celebrate this to full effect, Matthew Williamson is curating an exhibition focusing on the design and process of his work by invitation of the Design Museum, London. This exhibition will run for 3 months from 16th October 2007 and is then slated to tour internationally thereafter.

The Matthew Williamson Autumn Winter 2007 collection hails to the heritage of Matthew Williamson and the exquisite colours, textures and prints with which the label has become synonymous.

Matthew Williamson arrives in town with a showcase of his Spring/Summer 08 collection as well as an Asian preview of his Autumn/Winter 08 collection.
