| MANGO Spring / Summer Collection 2008 |
MANGO Spring / Summer Collection 2008MANGO, international Spanish fashion design brand, presents its new Spring/Summer ‘08 collection at Singapore Fashion Festival 2008, hosted at the Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City. MANGO showcases 4 of its latest collections on the runway which featured pure basics to the most fashionable for both day and evening wear. The Colonial line is a global melting pot of ethnic influences that reinterprets the "safari" style, giving it a 1970s touch, with animal-print style patterns and motifs reminiscent of a botanical world, such as seeds, plants and leaves. A formal style that plays with gold and leather details and with the contrast between matte and shiny surfaces. With fabrics such as linen, cotton, suede, satin, lurex, gauze, raffia and canvas in its accessories, this line offers a palette of neutral colours with touches of orange or grass green in items such as safari jackets, kaftans and flared trousers. For special occasions, MANGO has created the Game Colour line, characterised by strong, vibrant colours and fluid, draped silhouettes. This 70s glam look inevitably harks back to images of Veruschka in the editorials of the time. As its name suggests, this line encompasses a wide range of colours consisting of tones such as green, orange, fuchsia, yellow and khaki. Large floral prints and paisley pattern details decorate gauze, silks and satins, which provide the shapes for long dresses with low-cut backs. Stone, jet and gold details provide the special touch required for the occasion. For day-to-day wear, an urban yet formal style has been designed - the New Graphic line. This is a slightly retro look, based on a more structured silhouette and with particular emphasis on the waist. Bright colours stand out, together with graphic elements such as stripes, checks, spots, fading colours or tricolours. Graphic floral prints, abstract patches of colour, stripes, checks and spots make an appearance in cottons, silks, silver lurex and stitching. The suit, in natural colours contrasted with black, coral and yellow, consists of short jackets combined with full skirts or straight skirts, often with a belt at the waist. The more casual line is the Urban Gipsy collection, a 70s-influenced style with a casual, relaxed look. Wraparound knitted garments and triangular shapes coexist with skin-tight jeans or, in contrast, wide-leg trousers in the cut of the time. Paisley patterns on fabrics such as cotton, linen or satin stand out on garments such as triangular shapes or oversized knitwear. This more casual, sportier line is made up of natural colours with hints of pink. More Coverage on Singapore Fashion Festival 2008. Edited by Eugene Tang. Photography by Ken Wong.
