Island Shop Spring / Summer Collection 2008

Leslie Kuek (336x280)

This spring, the alluring mix of Island song and dance beckons the Island Shop couple to begin a romantic escapade through Polynesia.

Inspired by Gauguin’s paintings of rich and vibrant Island life, they embark on a journey that brings them closer to the beauty of Nature. They explore the fabled isles of Polynesia, from Cook Islands and Hawaii, to Tahiti and Fiji. To complement their exotic journey, easy breezy pieces that are sexy, comfortable and effortlessly chic – all part of the new Island Shop Spring/Summer ’08 collection. Imagine them as leads in an epic movie, in a journey that is an extravaganza of colours from washed-out earth tones to beautiful brights of tropical florals and fruits.

They begin their journey in Cook Islands, famous for clear, blue waters and unspoiled beaches. Taking the utter tranquillity and pristine, powdery beaches to their advantage, they enjoy a romantic picnic – she complements her tapa flower hair ornament with a peacoat-coloured dress embellished with floral appliqués, while he goes with a nautical-inspired striped shirt in azure and tiger lily red.

Romance is in the air as they travel to Vanuatu, where they relive the scenes of the classic musical South Pacific. She favours lily-print kaftans trimmed with cotton crochet lace, while he opts for an olive-coloured gauze shirt.

Vivid colours and floral prints come out to play as our handsome couple heads to the vibrant island of Hawaii. As they explore the island in the afternoon sun, she slips into a beaded cotton knit top in forest green and linen shorts, while he plays it cool in an orchid-printed cotton shirt. By night, they are enticed by the rhythmic sounds of the hula. Her outfit celebrates the colourful costumes of the hula dancers, a bright, multicoloured silk tunic and his turquoise cotton shirt reflects the Hawaiian waters.

As they journey to Tahiti, their wardrobe is full of bright floral prints of Island inspiration. They soak in the Island life in the bustling Sunday public market, Le Marché, dressed in comfortable linens and soft cottons. As the sun sets, the golden couple takes a romantic walk by the beach – a floral-print muumuu made stunning with scattered beads embellishment for her, and a simple, crisp cotton dobi shirt with a retro pin-up girl motif for him.

As their escapade draws to an end, there’s no better island paradise than exotic Fiji. She indulges in a dramatic mask-inspired smoking dress, and he exudes Island charm in a pirate-black cotton shirt embroidered with tattoo motifs. They conclude their grand adventure at the local tiki bar, sipping exotic cocktails – the perfect close to their island odyssey.
