Singapore Fashion Festival 2007 Opening Show:
Vivienne Tam Presents 2007 Fall / Winter Collection
East-Meets-West Hong Kong fashion designer Vivienne Tam showcased her Fall
2007 collection at the opening of the Singapore Fashion Festival 2007. Already
a household name in Asia and having sold to over 250 stores in America, including
luxury retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, Vivienne Tam is
no stranger to the international fashion industry.
Vivienne Tam, who had personally traveled to Singapore to open the Festival
this evening and the presence of Singapore Fashion who's who that also include
famous Malaysian shoe designer Jimmy Choo, had made this an exciting night where
every fashionista worth her salt will want to be part of.
All of Vivienne Tam’s collections are prominently labeled “Made in Hong Kong”
or “Made in China”, where her designs often crossed over from the fashion world
into the art world. “China chic,” as Vivienne Tam calls it, which was also the
title of her book which documents research trip through Shanghai and Beijing
interviewing locals as she gains inspiration for her runway collection for Spring
2007. For her, this encompasses everything from hand-beaded evening gowns and
flouncy dresses to sleek, embroidered kimonos with a modern fit.
Opening the show, was Japanese Supermodel and actress Ai Tominaga. Having
appeared on the runway for some of the world’s leading designers, Tominaga's
tall feminine form gave the start of the runway show a stagely presence.
As a continuation to her “China Chic” inspiration, Vivienne Tam's Fall 2007
collection featured jackets with heavy Chinese embroidery and Buddha graphics
prints which was a testament to her passion and love for all things Chinese.
Chinese inspired motifs and as well as detailing like the mandarin collar
and embellishment that combined different fabrics lends the adorned jackets
a strong look. Clean modern lines gives feminine dresses a refreshing look
and a Fall colour palette of black, plum, charcoal, slate blue, orange and dark
teal brings sophistication to this collection.
All these seems to work very well for Vivienne Tam as she continues to seek
inspiration for her designs through Chinese fashion, art, and traditional culture
that appeal to a wide range of customers including style icons such as Julia
Roberts, Madonna, Heather Graham, Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce, Michelle Yeoh
and Zhang Ziyi.
