TaFf Presents Singapore Fashion Rules!Models made a roaring entrance at the runway show of the Singapore Fashion Festival as they start the show by arriving at the runway on ultra-chic Vespa scooters. Dressed in all white apparels from the five featured local designer labels and waving the Singapore Flag, the ten models started the runway show that got the crowd cheering. The runway show entitled Singapore Fashion Rules! featured the latest Spring/Summer Collections from 5 cutting edge Singapore Designer labels including éWOMB, Individual Expression (I.E.), nèss, nicholas and Tian. Through this show, the Textile & Fashion Federation of Singapore (TaFf) showcased the creative talents of the local fashion industry to promote local designers at the Singapore Fashion Festival 2007. As Mr. David Wang, Executive Committee Member of TaFf and Vice Chairman of Singapore Fashion Week 2007 explains, “I came up with the Singapore Fashion Rules! tagline because it is a timely reminder to our customers out there that Singapore fashion designers have what it takes to compete with foreign brands ! I see all our designers, whether established or emerging, as shining beacons in the fashion industry both locally & globally.” éWOMB featured apparels that are created by the construction and deconstruction of fabrics and innovative use of layering as models paraded in an almost all-black collection. Individual Expression (I.E.) brings out the nostalgic charm of yesteryears in more ways than one as the models dressed in polka dots prints, blew soap bubbles and carried with them hoopla hoops, chatek, and yoyos. In a palette of mainly black and white by other designers, néss brought out the summer colours to good effect in the use of orange, lime green and turquoise with the delightful brightly stripped leggings, as well as feminine flora prints blouses. nicholas presented an interesting collection “Dainty Dandy”. This has been achieved by crossing details of menswear into this ladies collection as detailing like asymmetrical collars as well as misplaced button plackets
Tian stirred up the drama factor as he has his models out in the runway with strips of chiffon over their eyes in a collection that was inspired by the old iron and steel structures of Europe that are reminiscent of the Second Industrial Revolution of the late 19th century. In the finale, more than twenty of Singapore’s top fashion designers both veterans and emerging ones shared the stage as the show draws to an end proving that Singapore Fashion does have what it takes to put a little eye-catching red dot on the global fashion map.
