“Urbanscapes” Regional Photography Competition by Insight Guides in collaboration with The Singapore Sun Festival 2008

The Singapore Sun Festival 2008, the premier arts and lifestyle festival that celebrates The Art of Living Well through seven disciplines - music, visual arts, literature, film, wine, cuisine and wellness - is back from 17 – 26 October 2008. This year, the festival is introducing a new component, a regional photography competition, to promote the art of photography.

Said Mindy Coppin, Senior Vice President, Director IMG Artists (Asia Pacific), “We are delighted to launch this regional Photography Competition in collaboration with Insight Guides, the leading publisher of visual travel guidebooks and maps. As part of the Singapore Sun Festival programming, this competition embraces the idea of appreciating the arts and at the same time, showcasing the art in photography.”

The competition is looking for amateur and professional photographers who are not only able to capture mesmerizing scenes, but also have the ability to ingeniously bring out the essence of a destination. The theme “Urbanscapes” focuses on the areas of culture, people, architecture and life in Asia.

Entrants have until 15 September 2008 to submit their photographs. Each submission must mention the place and date it was taken and include a short caption of why the image is a unique representation of “Urbanscapes”. Entrants may submit a maximum of three (3) photos each.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of professional photographers, including founder and publisher of Insight Guides, Hans Hoefer, as the chief judge. The first prize winner will receive a professional commission from Insight Guides worth approximately S$8,000 for one of its prestigious travel guides. The second prize winner will receive a Nikon D40 Kit worth S$888 while the third prize winner will receive a Nikon COOLPIX S50 worth S$399. Winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive an Insight Guides Hamper worth S$100.

A highlight of the competition is the exhibition of the top 10 finalists’ works in print courtesy of Epson, at Borders Wheelock, Singapore from 17 to 26 October 2008 for the People's Choice Award. The public will be able to view the top entries and participate in the People’s Choice contest to vote for their favourite photograph where they will also stand a chance to win a S$50 Borders voucher. The top 3 winners of the photo competition and the winner of the People’s Choice Award will be announced at Borders Wheelock, Singapore on 26 October 2008.
