Success of Singapore Airshow Reaffirms Singapore’s Position as Leading Aerospace HubThe inaugural Singapore Airshow came to a close with more than 30,000 trade visitors and over 90,000 aviation enthusiasts when the show opened to the public on 23 and 24 February. More than 800 exhibitors from 42 countries took part in the Singapore Airshow, located on a purpose-built site alongside Singapore’s renowned Changi Airport. The new Changi Exhibition Center features a 40,000 square metre exhibition hall, a 90,000 square metre static display area, and more than 100 chalets with roof gardens providing exhibitors with a 360-degree view of the show site and the daily flying displays. “Looking at the large number of senior aerospace executives who were in Singapore for the show and the investments in state-of-the-art aerospace facilities in Singapore, there is no doubt that the success of the Singapore Airshow reinforces Singapore’s leadership position as a leading hub for the aerospace industry”, commented Mr Lau. “I am very pleased with the outcome of the airshow; it is heartening to see such an overwhelming response, not only from the trade visitors and delegations, but also from the general public. The show provides something for everyone, from aviation enthusiasts to families who are looking for an educational and fun day out with the children,” added Mr Lau. Aviation enthusiasts were thrilled for an hour and a half each day, by the breathtaking aerobatic displays put up by the United States Air Force, the RAAF Roulettes, and Singapore’s RSAF Black Knights. Besides the aerobatics displays, members of the public also had the opportunity to view 60 of the newest commercial and military aircraft at a close distance, including the A380 which is the largest aircraft on display in the outdoor static display area. The Singapore Airshow is a biennial event with the next one slated for 23-28 February, 2010. 70% of exhibitors have already confirmed bookings for the 2010 show. Edited by Eugene Tang.
