Speech by Mr. Satinder Garcha, Polo Captain of the Singapore Polo Club who illustrated on the overview of Polo Game.

The Cartier International Polo Tournament returns to the Singapore Polo Club for the fourth consecutive year from Tuesday-Sunday, May 13-18, 2008.

This event is a highlight on the annual social calendar in Singapore and one of the premier polo events in Southeast Asia. The Gold League match (12-14 goal handicap) to be played on Sunday, May 18 will include several professional players including Gerardo Mazzini (6-goal), Carlos Pando (6-goal) and Gines Bargallo (6-goal) from Argentina, and Dave Allen (4-goal) from the United Kingdom.

Princess Bhargavi Kumari Mewar of Udaipur returns this year, in addition to Prince Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, the 35-year old scion of the Baroda Royal Family.

Of great interest will be the appearance of Indian film star, Kabir Bedi. Bedi has acted in over 60 Bollywood films and featured in the James Bond thriller, Octopussy. In addition to his film success, Bedi also achieved television fame in Europe (Italian/German/French television series, Sandokan) and the USA (Day-time soap opera, The Bold & The Beautiful).

They will be joined by a large number of local personalities and socialites, including May Lee and Anita Kapoor, for the “Mailett d’Or Cartier” final on Sunday, 18 May 08 from 3pm.

The glamour and excitement of the day will be enhanced by a performance of the President’s Guard of India, a thrilling display of trick riding and equestrian skill.

A highlight of this annual tournament is the Gala Dinner to be held on Friday, May 16 at the Club. The Verandah of this historic facility will be transformed for a “Days of the Raj” – An Indian inspired evening, including a fashion parade showcasing the latest Cartier collection and a performance by the President’s Guard of India.

Cartier - the “King of Jewelers and the Jeweler of Kings” - has been a strong supporter of polo since the early 1920’s. The leading jeweler and watchmaker supports several other prestigious polo tournaments each year -- the annual Cartier International Day at Windsor, the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow at St Moritz and even a spectacular elephant polo event in Jaipur.

Cartier remains the title sponsor for this prestigious tournament, while Banque de Depots et de Gestion (BDG), returns as a valued co-sponsor. The Club is also honoured to have StarHub (Official Infocomms), G.H. Mumm Champagne (Official Champagne), Stella Artois & Appletiser (Official Beer & Sparkling Juice), La Martina (Official Apparel), Fiji Water (Official Water), Telecom Italia (Official Gala Dinner Sponsor) and ESPN Star Sports (Official Broadcast Network) for this year’s tournament.
