“Go global” business CASE competition
Calling for youths to join the movement to think outside the dot.

Guest of Honour: Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports

For the first time, a group of youths from the National Youth Forum, supported by the National Youth Council (NYC), have organised a unique business case competition with a twist. Unlike similar competitions, participants apply as individuals and then form teams with other applicants whom they have never met. What results is a group of individuals from very different cultural and educational backgrounds; a real experiment in diversity.

The panel of judges for “Go Global” is led by Mr Michael Palmer (MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol) and the Guest of Honour for the final presentation is Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry for Community, Youth and Sport and MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol. The project is supported by the NYC through its Youth Development Fund grant. Prizes are sponsored by Social Innovation Park and Marco-Colombus.

Many international schools have jumped at the opportunity to participate in an event that involved local schools as well. “Go Global” is also open to all students from the various Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, and Institutes of Technical Education. Together with the participation of international schools, “Go Global” crosses traditional boundaries, providing a learning opportunity for all participants as they learn how to work with individuals very different from themselves.

“Go Global” hopes to take advantage of the opportunities for students to interact with youths from other countries. As one organiser said, “Some of the questions we asked ourselves were: are the international students given adequate avenues to interact with the local students? How much do we know about them? How much do they know about us? Will their ideas and ideals be vastly different from us since they are from different backgrounds?”

The participants of “Go Global” will learn how to overcome the challenges of working with people of different backgrounds through experience. Coming together as a team of complete strangers, they will learn, live and work together to solve an unconventional business case study. As the team members bond together during the competition, they will discover how to leverage on each other’s strengths and turn their differences into an advantage.

The competition is preceded by activities with the entire event taking place over three weeks:

12 May Team-Bonding through Games (Settlers’ Café)
19 – 20 May Pre-Competition Problem Based Learning (Republic Polytechnic)
25 - 26 May Case Study Release and Presentation
19 – 20 May Pre-Competition Problem Based Learning (Republic Polytechnic)

(Before the final presentation, a seminar organized by Talentpreneur Hub will be held for around 300 members of the general student population.)
