By noon, the dark clouds had cleared to make way for a cool afternoon while spectators enjoyed a series of performances before the actual match started. Guests were treated to a generous spread of canapés sponsored by Raffles Hotels & Resorts and the Moët & Chandon champagne flowed freely while guests watched the interesting Gurkha pipes and drums band performance, followed by showjumping and pony racing put up by the Singapore Polo Club Riding section. One of the programme highlights was the fashion show sponsored by pologirlsclub.com, which specializes in polo inspired fashion.

Despite the soggy field, the two teams vying for Cartier’s Le Maillet d’Or trophy fought fiercely. “It was a really tough match which was made more difficult by the turf conditions” said Fernando Bourdieu. “But we stuck together as a team, defended stoutly and attacked well.” The Singapore team, captained by the Polo Captain of the Singapore Polo Club, Satinder Garcha, put up a tight defence against the Royal Mewar team and the crowd cheered wildly when Sattar Khan of the Singapore team scored the first and second goals for Singapore. The third goal was scored by 4-goaler Philip Elliott, who is also the national coach of the Singapore SEA Games team. Asad Jumabhoy made up this quartet. Unfortunately, the Singapore team lost after 5 chukkas under the relentless pressure of the Indian team.
