Royal Mewar win the Cartier International Polo Tournament 2007
India’s Royal Mewar team beat the Singapore Polo Club Team 8 to 3 in a 5-chukka match held at the Singapore Polo Club last Sunday afternoon. Lokendra Singh Rathore, a 4 goal polo player, led the Royal Mewar team with team mates Fernando Bourdieu, Scott McCreery, Lawrence Khong and David Mouille to win the Cartier’s prestigious and much-coveted La Maillet d’Or trophy. The 6 goal Argentinean professional polo player, Fernando Bourdieu, who scored a total of 6 goals in the match, was also winner of the Most Valuable Player. Some 800 spectators made up of local supporters, dignitaries and guests invited by the Singapore Polo Club and sponsors turned up for the event despite the morning drizzle. The Maharana of Udaipur, His Highness Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, was the guest of honour at the event. Accompanying him was his daughter, the lovely Princess Bhargavi Kumari Mewar of Udaipur and her husband, Lokendra Singh Rathore.
