Asian Young Fashion Designers Contest 2007 (AYFDC)

Singapore Fashion Designer winner, Mr Chia Wei Choong beats Korean Young Designer , Ms Ye Jon Park to emerge as grand winner for this year Singapore Fashion Week and walked away a cash prize of S$16 000 from Asian Young Fashion Designers Contest and Singapore Fashion Designers Contest.

Apart from the cash prize, he will also receive an internship programme in New York with international famous designer Vivenne Tam and a BA (Hons) Fashion Design Scholarship sponsored by Raffles Design Institute.

Since its inception 18 years ago, the Asian Young Fashion Designers Contest (AYFDC) is still THE only regional talent search that has paved the way for many young fashion designers to pursue a career in the fashion industry. AYFDC is open to all Asian citizens, including non-Singaporeans residing in Singapore, between 16 to 35 years (in Dec 2007).

Many promising designers in the region have successfully launched their fashion careers after participating in previous AYFDCs. Designers like Malaysia’s Khoon Hooi, Indonesia’s Ronald V Gaghana, and Singapore’s own K.Mi Huang from Womb.

As Singapore marks its admission to Asia Fashion Federation (AFF), AYFDC is happy to see entries from AFF member countries with contestants from AFF China and Korea being selected for the finals. The contest is a platform where designers from different Asian countries comes together not only to present their work, but also share their experience, idea and visions.

Headed by the AYFDC chairperson, the panel of judges is made up of international and local fashion industry experts including Singapore’s top fashion designer Tan Yoong.

Each finalist showcased twelve outfits each based on the Changing Patterns concept.

Ye Jon park (Korea) – Denial
Boon-arak Raksawong (Thailand) - Tsunami Effect
Smisssorn Suthisung (Thailand) – Nedrag
Vo Cong Khanh (Vietnam) – Water Drops
Franco Tan (Singapore) – Everybody wants some…
Chai Wei Choong (Singapore) – My Escapist Fantasy

The event is presented and sponsored by VivoCity; Raffles Design Institute for the scholarship award and Team Salon for hair.
