Theinaugural Singapore Garden Festival (SGF), the first garden show in the world to bring together the creations of top award-winning international garden and floral designers from 14 countries under one roof, opens its doors today.

The Festival, occupying 2.3 hectares at Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre, will take place from 16 - 25 December 2006 and is expected to draw 200,000 visitors from Singapore and around the world.

The 10-day event, which took two years to plan, will feature over 30 garden and floral displays, including 19 show gardens and 14 floral displays specially created for Singapore by award-winning designers from world renowned shows such as the Chelsea Flower Show (United Kingdom), the Philadelphia Flower Show, Floriade (Netherlands) and the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show, to name but a few.

Over 150,000 tropical and temperate plants are used for the displays, including blooms never before seen in Singapore and special plants, trees and orchids brought in by garden designers, floral artists and exhibitors from around the world to be unveiled for the first time during the event.

Mr Ng Lang, NParks Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said, “SGF promises to be a truly unique experience in many ways. No other garden or flower show in the world has as wide a geographical representation of top talent within a single event. Our all-stars cast of international gardening luminaries will provide the finest displays of horticultural excellence and inspiration from around the world. The Festival will add a fresh dimension to our Garden City with its use of plants in design and as an art form.”
