Marina Bay Countdown 2006 – Make A Wish For The New Year connected people across the nation in a collective expression of wishes for the new year. On 31 December 2006, Marina Bay was transformed into a visual spectacle of light, sound and colour, as the wishes of people throughout Singapore - represented by 5,000 floating spheres on the waters of the bay created a stunning waterfront experience for all. At the stroke of midnight, be enthralled by a breathtaking display of fireworks set against the city skyline, with accompanying music composed by well-known musician Iskandar Ismail. Through a live telecast of fireworks presentation on Channel NewsAsia International, Singaporeans in Asia, the Middle East and Australia who have access to channel could do the countdown at the same time as their fellow Singaporeans here. Said Benson Puah, CEO of The Esplanade Co Ltd: “ The Marina Bay Countdown brings Singaporeans from all walks of life together in a contemplative celebration to collectively wish as a community. Through the live telecast and virtual wishes, we want to also involve Singaporeans who are overseas in this meaningful activity to unite everyone at that special moment when we welcome the New Year. In fact, to make this an even more meaningful event, we would like to invite non-Singaporeans around the world to also join us in our collective wish for peace and joy in the New Year.” For the first time, fireworks were launched from two prominent building along Marina Bay – One Raffles Quay and NTUC centre at one One Marina Boulevard.
