Al Gore, the ex-VP of USA, is not the only one with saving the environment on his mind. The management of Change Alley, has rallied its shopping tenants to join in the “Green Christmas @ Change Alley” – a mini green-movement with lots of activities to further help everyone to remember to reduce, reuse and recycle in their daily habits.

The Management feels that Christmas isn’t just about reindeers, Santa Clause, Christmas presents and decorations. At Change Alley, we will celebrate a love not only for our family & friends, but also a love for our environment and a celebration of the often-forgotten Mother Earth.

Tallest Drink-can Christmas Tree In Singapore
Highlight of this celebration will be the creation of Singapore’s first and tallest drink-can Christmas tree, measuring 15-ft high, entirely made up of Green Tea cans sponsored by Pokka, a partner in this project and certified by the Singapore Book of Records.

Shoppers can guess the no. of drink cans in this tree and win attractive prizes with a minimum worth of $100 each.

Other Event Highlights
To keep the Christmas shopping crowd in the mood not just for retail therapy but also with the “go-green” attitude, various event highlights will be featured throughout the 6-week festive promotional period. They include -

Complimentary Limited Edition Recycled Gift-wrapping Paper
Shoppers will be encouraged to do away with shopping bags/carriers with their purchases and for their efforts; they will be rewarded with an additional free spin at Change Alley’s Wheel of Fortune of Prizes.

As well, they will be given complimentary gift-wrapping papers which are “recycled” in a double-sided printing featuring the Change Alley Christmas gift-wrap on 1 side and the weekly event highlights in the shopping mall on the other side. The gift-wrappers are a Limited Edition in different colours each week with different event highlights.

Green Tips
Why Reduce, Reuse & Recycle?
Singapore is running out of land for refuse disposal. Our last landfill on Singapore mainland is closed in 1999. Our offshore Semakau landfill was built in 1999 and cost $610 million. It has a lifespan of only 30 years if nothing is done to reduce waste landfilled. Where is our next landfill going to be?
The cost of refuse disposal is also increasing. We would have to pay more for refuse disposal if nothing is done to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
With the rising affluence and population growth, people consume more and thus create more waste. Singapore’s waste has increased six folds for the past thirty years. If this continues, we would need a new incineration plant every 5-7 years and one new landfill every 25-30 years.
Let’s save our precious resources through Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
