In conjunction with the theatrical release of FOCUS: First Cuts (FFC) film series, Golden Village Pictures has organized an exclusive filmmaking symposium titled: “From Script to Screen”. With support from the Media Development Authority (MDA), the National Library Board (NLB), and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the dialogue was opened to members of the public who have an interest in filmmaking. It offers local and regional practitioners from the film industry a common platform to discuss and exchange valuable filmmaking and film producing knowledge. Under NLB’s “Directing Asia: Insights into Asian Cinema” series, the symposium also aims to nurture promising filmmakers and young aspiring film students in Singapore.

For the first time in Asia, this project involving filmmakers from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan who are producing six features films shot on High Definition (HD) technology. Each director has his/her own unique tale and cutting-edge vision, and injects invigorating energy as well as charm into the Chinese language film Industry. Though the films are all in Chinese, the intercultural divergence of each Chinese community and their sense of Diasporas will inevitably be reflected in each of the films culminating in a universal theme of coping with modernity. Each film is targeted for release in cinemas, television premiere on the Star Chinese Movies Network (across Asia) and home video released. With the staunch support from one of Asia’s most popular stars, Mr. Andy Lau, and the expertise and resources provided by the team at Focus Films, FOCUS: First Cuts aims to nurture new talents and providing them the platform to showcase their films to a wider audience. Furthermore, FOCUS: First Cuts seeks to bring filmmakers closer to connecting to the audience.
