The festive celebrations in Chinatown were at a climatic point on the eve of Chinese New Year. A Countdown Party with live coverage by MediaCorp TV8 and performances by MediaCorp and overseas artistes was held along New Bridge Road on 28 January 2006. The Countdown Party at Chinatown was live telecast at 10.30pm with MediaCorp artistes such as Zoe Tay, Fann Wong, Christopher Lee, Zhu Mi Mi and Superstar finalists among many others. Overseas artistes also include Li Quan, Hei Bang, Wang Xi and Xiang Xiang from China and Ah Niu from Malaysia. Other highlights comprise of a Shaolin Wushu performance, dances and a dog show. To usher in the Year of the Dog, 208 strings of firecrackers combined with a Pyrotechnics and fireworks display was fired at the stroke of midnight. Firecrackers were activated at People's Park Complex as well as along New Bridge Road. This was by far the largest firing of firecrackers for the Chinatown Chinese New Year. Following the countdown, there was a street party from 1am till 3am as the DJ spin favorite dance tunes.
