If you have been an ardent fan of Chinese pop since the late 80s, then the names Tong An Ge (童安格Angus Tong ) and Zhou Zhi Ping (周治平Steve Chow) will definitely ring a bell.

Currently based mainly in China, the two music maestros from Taiwan, well known for their ability to churn out catchy melodies, remain close to the hearts of their fans despite their low profiles in recent years.

Come 8th September 2007, 8pm, Tong An Ge and Zhou Zhi Ping will partner each other to take centre stage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in the long overdue concert “Tong An Ge & Zhou Zhi Ping Concert 2007”. Tickets priced at $148, $128, $108, $88, $68 will be available via all SISTIC outlets from 7th June 2007.

Who Are They?

Both Tong An Ge and Zhou Zhi Ping boast an impressive list of musical credentials to their names and have left definitive marks in the music scene.

On average, it is reported in Taiwan that one in every six people you meet would have bought a copy of their album before, and each person is likely to own at least six albums which contains either one of their musical compositions or an album produced by them.

Blessed with boyish good looks and talent, Tong An Ge debuted in 1985 with the album ‘Thinking of You’ (想你). He subsequently released 14 albums, including a Chinese pop classic “Thinking of You” (其实你不董我的心).

Zhou Zhi Ping not only produced many chart topping albums in the late 80s and 90s for artistes such as Chi Chin (齐秦), Emil Chau (周华健), Leslie Cheung (张国荣), Jacky Cheung (张学友), Andy Lau (刘德华), Tong Leung (梁朝伟), his debut album ‘Childhood’ (青梅竹马), released in 1990, was also nominated in the annual Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award.

More about the concert

With the intent of singing good music that will soothe the soul, “Tong An Ge & Zhou Zhi Ping Concert 2007” kicked off in Taiwan in November 2006 and was completely sold out for all three nights.

However, many were curious as to how and why Tong An Ge and Zhou Zhi Ping came together to partner each other, especially when they have never collaborated in the past. To this, Tong An Ge said the idea to collaborate came to him by chance when he saw Zhou Zhi Ping singing in a tribute concert for the acclaimed Taiwanese composer Liang Hong Zhi, and it struck him that that Zhou’s vocals have over the years acquired an amazing ability to soothe the soul and this is a sound much needed in turbulent times.

Nonetheless, if not for the persistence of the Taiwanese concert promoter and the fact that Tong An Ge hopes to be able to repay his fans for their many years of unwavering support, “Tong An Ge & Zhou Zhi Ping Concert 2007” might not have been able to materialise. Local concert promoter, Unusual Productions, also spent much time and effort convincing these two talented artistes to bring their concert to Singapore – making this their debut concert and partnership in Singapore, despite being in the music scene for almost two decades.

A perennial favorite of karaoke goers, fans of Tong An Ge and Zhou Zhiping can expect them to present their many hits such as “明天你是否依然爱我”、“那一场风花雪月的事” 、“爱与哀愁” 、“青梅竹马” 、“其实你不董我的心” 、“耶利亚女郎” 、“梦不到你” 、“我就在你身边” and hits which they wrote for other singers such as Tony Leung’s “你是如此难以忘记” 、“一天一点爱恋” 、“为情所困” , Andy Lau’s “我和我追逐的梦”,Jacky Cheung’s “谁想轻轻偷走我的吻”, Emil Chau’s “寂寞的眼” and a brand new duet “记得那首歌”which they specially composed for this concert.

Come take a trip down memory lane with Tong An Ge and Zhou Zhi Ping on 8th September 2007, as they promise you a no frills concert filled with good music and great vibes!

Brief Introduction on the Artistes

Debuting in 1983, Tong An Ge (童安格, Angus Tong) released his first solo album “Miss You” (想你) two years after. To date, he has released fourteen albums and won numerous musical and popularity awards such as “Best Male Vocalist” and “Top Ten Most Popular Artiste in China”. These days, despite being more active with drama serials and radio hosting in China, Angus has never stopped composing and singing. The sold out concerts he held in Beijing, Wuhan and Shanghai from 2003-2004 proves his lasting popularity in the fickle entertainment industry.

As a singer, Zhou Zhi Ping (周治平, Steve Chow) is a favorite among karaoke goers for his many hits. His solo album “Childhood” (青梅竹马) was not only nominated for the top ten singles in the annual Taiwanese music awards, half the songs in that album were chart toppers which were later picked up and turned into popular Cantonese tracks sang by Jacky Cheung (张学友), Hacken Lee (李克勤) and Leon Lai (黎明). In 1996, after a solo concert, Steve took a break from the music scene. As a producer, Steve Chow was widely sought after who produced many commercially acclaimed albums in the early 90s for artistes such as Chi Chin (齐秦), Tony Leung (梁朝伟), Jacky Cheung (张学友), Emil Chow (周华健), Andy Lau (刘德华), Leslie Cheung (张国荣) and many more. These days, he still dabbles in music production.
