The Godfather of Canto Pop Sam Hui comes to Singapore “Sam Hui. Singapore. LIVE”

A legend in the Hong Kong entertainment scene, Sam Hui is set to thrill one and all with a one night only show “Sam Hui. Singapore. LIVE” on 29 March 2008 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tickets priced at $188, $158, $128, $88 (excluding SISTIC fee) will be available via SISTIC hotline 6348 5555 or www.unusual.com.sg from 29 December 2007 onwards.

Fondly referred to as the Godfather of Canto Pop, Sam Hui is widely known as the one who popularised the Canto-pop that we are familiar with today. In fact, it has been said that Hong Kong didn’t have music of its own until Sam Hui came along. With lyrics that poked fun at everyday life and echoed the views of the regular man in the street, the working class bonded with his music.

Equally successful both as an actor and a singer, Sam Hui is a box office guarantee for his movies and concerts. In 1983, he became the first ever singer to hold a concert at the 10 thousand-seater Hong Kong Coliseum, kick starting the glorious history of the coliseum. Sam Hui announced his retirement in 1992 and bade farewell with 41 dates at the same venue, re-writing Hong Kong concert history as the artiste with the highest number of shows. He came out of retirement in Year 2004 and created much hype with his 38 shows held the same year.

Come 2008, Sam Hui will be at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 29th March belting out his many hits such as “浪子心声” (Lang Zi Xin Sheng), “大丈夫” (Da Zhang Fu), “铁塔凌云” (Tie Ta Ling Yun), “学生歌” (Xue Sheng Ge), “天才与白痴” (Tian Cai Yu Bai Chi), “最佳排档” (Zui Jia Pai Dang), “财神到” (Cai Shen Dao), “半斤八两” (Ban Jin Ba Liang), “沧海一声笑” (Cang Hai Yi Sheng Xiao), “阿朗恋曲” (Ah Lang Lian Qu), “鬼马双心” (Gui Ma Shuang Xin), “十个女仔” (Shi Ge Nu Zai), “天才白痴梦” (Tian Cai Bai Chi Meng) and more.

For those who grew up listening to Canto Pop, for those familiar with Sam Hui, whether as an actor, singer or artiste, “Sam Hui. Singapore. LIVE” is one concert that spells sweet nostalgia.
