A New Dining Experience At The Singapore Polo Club

1-01.jpgIf you want to be spoilt for choice in a unique dining experience, look no further. Set in the midst of tropical greenery along Mount Pleasant Road and just off busy Thomson Road is the Singapore Polo Club.

It is one of Singapore’s oldest recreational clubs; founded in 1886 by the officers of the 1st Battalion, the King’s Own Regiment. Popular for its polo matches, the club’s present premise at Mount Pleasant Road was allocated to its members in 1941.

Away from the bustling city life, the club manages to retain its relaxed country-manor ambience offering a comprehensive range of recreational and sporting activities including tennis, squash, swimming, gymnasium and spa facilities. In addition, you can also enjoy a lifestyle dining concept that brings you close to nature.

Since January this year, the club has officially taken over the F&B operations from its previous third-party operator and it is now managing the entire F&B operations under the expertise and leadership of F&B Manager, Mr Dennis J Kool, who has more than 20 years of experience in the F&B Industry as an Executive Chef and manger of well-established F&B outlets and Pubs.

Helping Dennis is the Executive Chef, Nelson Chua, and his culinary team of 6 experts. A passionate food-lover, Nelson learned to cook from his grandfather, a chef from the Raffles Hotel during the 70s. Later, he honed his skills working with the Les Amis Group, Au Petit Salute, and had a six-month training stint at the 3 Michelin Star Restaurant Troisgros in Roanne, France. And did you know that having gone through some massive renovation and rejuvenation, the club is proud to introduce 4 brand new dining outlets. The air-conditioned Mountbatten Room is a fine dining restaurant with a sophisticated wine list big enough to whet anyone’s appetite.

As for its food; you would be impressed with the creations by Executive Chef Nelson and his team. During Food & Beverage Media Launch, we were treated to a 5 course lunch which spoke volumes of Chef Nelson’s dedication to his culinary expertise. The menu consisted of:1-02.jpg

  • Chicken Consommé with Black Trumpet and Chicken Ravioli
  • Tasmanian Ocean Trout Tatare Celeriac Rémoulade, with Nouilly Prat Crème Fraiche
  • Braised Lamb Neck with Cepes and Truffle Oil Infused Palenta Mash
  • White Chocolate Parfait with Valencia Orange Compote

The exquisite cuisine served, has delicacy, variety and taste, and I was impressed by the presentation of each dish. The Mountbatten Room also offers great value: For a business set lunch, served on Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 3pm, at just S$19.50++.

The Club Bar, previously a food serving counter is now a full service bar where members and guests can mingle and net-work, while indulging in a wide selection of beverages. Every Friday night, during Happy Hours, it offers a 2-for-1 drink. On Sundays, complimentary finger food is served from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

But if you feel like dining in the open, The Verendah which overlooks the luscious green polo field is just the place for one to sit and chat. Here you get to sample both local and western delicacies.

Two additional dining outlets that have been added to the club are the new pool-side Mediterranean Grill and an al-fresco dining area. One can now spend a relaxing afternoon by the pool while enjoying Mediterranean and Western delicacies or have a delectable afternoon tea with friends in the al-fresco dining area.

For your information, all dining outlets at the Singapore Polo Club are open to members and the general public.

Reservations for the Mountbatten Room are highly recommended. Call the Singapore Polo Club at 68543999 or visit www.singaporepoloclub.org
