Perhaps for Weng Yunpeng, the works of the present are not simply a form, but represent concrete life experience full of details. Furthermore, the works also record the peculiar experience of China undergoing radical social transformation. The center of the experience is a profound Identity Crisis. On the one hand, the beguiling concept of Global Inhabitant has brought a kind of dislocation for a new force lured by the concept has emerged while the force can not merge with the indigenous society and the force in truth are difficult to completely reconcile with the so-called illusion of Global Harmony. At the same time, there are still some people being excluded with no chance of being involved in the tide of globalization. And the origin of the Identity Crisis in radical social change lies in shaking old deep-rooted concepts. An individual's personal experience itself is not enough to sustain self identity when the self keeps changing and the individual is drifting with the tide. The complicated and delicate question "Who am I?" that consistently underlies his works is one which the artist has scrutinized, grasped, and utilized.

In my view, culture is neither just reality stuck in a rut, nor the long-accepted symbol system and nor a fixed concept and explanation determined by the current ideology. Rather culture is people's everyday life in the vivid status quo ante. So what the cultural ecology presents is not just a result, it is still more a process. From this perspective, the highlights of daily life in Weng Yunpeng's works show the deep concern for people's actual living conditions and future development possibilities. When facing the paintings, you will realize that what the paintings represent is just our real circumstances. The artist's peculiar discourse strengthens or distills common understanding, looking closely at our ordinary daily life that we have become accustomed to so long that we don't question it. It is the profound truth hidden beneath the surface reality that arouses our sympathy or is even a shock waiting for us.
