2008’s plays represent the ideas of a generation of theatre artists reflecting on the problems and possibilities of our times. By plundering our history and legends, tacking urgent issues and musing about what the future might hold, the plays offer new and critical perspectives – about who we are and what it means to be living in Singapore in 2008.
Bringing these plays from page to stage will be some of the most exciting professional directors working in Singapore today including: Samantha Scott-Blackhall (The Physicists, Everything but the Brain), Jonathan Lim (Homesick, Jack & he Bean-Sprout!), Christina Sergeant (Furthest North, Deepest South, The Hypochondriac), Alin Mosbit (The Silence of the Kittens, Ikan Cantik), Paul Rae(National Language Class, Duets) and Ivan Heng (Beauty World, The Campaign to Confer the Public Service Star on JBJ, Asian Boys Vol. 3)
Recognising that theatre does not begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain, a series of forums, reading and activities have been planned in and around the Festival. “The Art and Life Session”
The Art and Life Sessions is a series of free lively forums about the urgent issues of the day. “Testing 1-2-3”It is a new play-reading platform to engage with artists and contributors to the creative process of making a play Feedback FridayPerformances on Friday nights will be followed by a talk-back session in the Theatre.
