OCBC Singapore Theatre Festival 2008![]() Apocalypse-LIVE Encourage by the overwhelming success of the inaugural festival in 2006, this year’s festival will take place from 6 to 24 August 2008 and will present World Premieres of no fewer than 14 new plays to be stage by 6 theatre groups. – a biennial theatre Festival committed to the development, production and promotion of new Singapore plays W!ld RICE is delighted to welcome OCBC Bank on board as the Title Sponsor for the Singapore Theatre Festival 2008.
2008’s plays represent the ideas of a generation of theatre artists reflecting on the problems and possibilities of our times. By plundering our history and legends, tacking urgent issues and musing about what the future might hold, the plays offer new and critical perspectives – about who we are and what it means to be living in Singapore in 2008.
Bringing these plays from page to stage will be some of the most exciting professional directors working in Singapore today including: Samantha Scott-Blackhall (The Physicists, Everything but the Brain), Jonathan Lim (Homesick, Jack & he Bean-Sprout!), Christina Sergeant (Furthest North, Deepest South, The Hypochondriac), Alin Mosbit (The Silence of the Kittens, Ikan Cantik), Paul Rae(National Language Class, Duets) and Ivan Heng (Beauty World, The Campaign to Confer the Public Service Star on JBJ, Asian Boys Vol. 3)
Recognising that theatre does not begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain, a series of forums, reading and activities have been planned in and around the Festival. “The Art and Life Session”
The Art and Life Sessions is a series of free lively forums about the urgent issues of the day. “Testing 1-2-3”It is a new play-reading platform to engage with artists and contributors to the creative process of making a play Feedback FridayPerformances on Friday nights will be followed by a talk-back session in the Theatre. The OCBC Singapore Theatre Festival aims to be an international festival that will attract not just Singaporeans, but theatre audiences from all over the world by promoting Singapore as a vibrant, creative city. ![]() The Last Temptation of Stamford Raffles ![]() The Swordfish then The Concubine Edited by Eugene Tang.
