ASIAN ART MUSEUM DIRECTORS’ FORUM 2007Asian Art Museum Directors’ Forum (AAMDF) 2007 was officially launched by Singapore’s Minister for National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan at the Singapore Art Museum This is a follow up to the inaugural AAMDF held at the National Art Museum of China, Beijing in September 2006. Asian art museum directors from Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, met in Singapore to discuss issues facing Asian visual arts and art museum development, with reference to the Beijing Resolution that was passed in 2006. Building on the foundation of AAMDF 2006, AAMDF 2007 aims to provide a common and sustained platform for initiating civilizational dialogues and work towards cultural understanding; for developing a comprehensive network among Asian museums, art faculties and cultural institutions; and for furthering collaboration and joint programming among art museums in Asia. Asian Art Museum Directors’ Forum 2006Beijing Resolution We have had in-depth discussion on developments of fine art, and establishment and progress of art museums, in Asia. We share common concerns in the various issues discussed. In a globalizing world, art museums have important role and contributions in the development of culture. The exchange of programs, ideas and knowledge, and collaboration among art museums will benefit the overall development and advancement of art museology in Asia. It is our aspiration, that on equal and mutually beneficial basis, that we further the dialogues between cultures, and to enhance the better coordination and communication between museums, so as to help optimize cultural resources to better support cultural development in our countries, and to develop art museums as a fundamental cultural institution in our society. We wish to enhance “Asian Art Museum Directors’ Forum” as a new platform for a comprehensive network, forum and collaborative framework among art museums in Asia, and to organize regular meetings with different relevant themes, so as to systematically discuss the common concerns in the Asian art museum circle. We strongly believe and anticipate the close communication and cooperation among art museums in Asia, so as to contribute to the preservation of diversity of cultures in the world, and to facilitate the further development of Asian arts and cultures, so as to contribute to human civilization and progress, and friendship among peoples of Asia and of the world.
